Why Safeguarding is Important to the UK

Many children and young people in the UK are repeatedly abused in their own homes  by people close to them. Older people who are frail and unable to defend themselves may be subject to abuse by those meant to care for them. Abuse can also take place in the most unexpected of places including, faith-based institutions, schools, hospitals, day care centres, overseas development projects and during play. For some children, the danger may come from their family, close family friends and other relatives while others may be unwittingly exposed to the risk of abuse from those in a position of authority over them e.g. at school, church or at play.

The UK Government takes the safety of vulnerable groups very seriously and  has developed  comprehensive legislation to protect children young people and vulnerable adults from abuse. The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 and Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 makes it mandatory for organisations and institutions to discharge their legal duty of care towards vulnerable groups by providing a safe and secure environment free from abuse and harm. They must also ensure that abuse can be safely reported and addressed when it occurs.

At Stephen Boyo Associates we work with voluntary organisations, churches, schools and care institutions in the UK to strengthen the way they safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults in order to prevent abuse and harm. We achieve this by providing safeguarding training, information, advice and guidance to enable organisations develop and implement robust safeguarding policies and procedures. We can also support you with developing your safeguarding policy and ensure that it is fully embedded within your organisation.
